The trade you're actually making
Google Photos is a genuinely strong product, and its recap is good. But it's downstream of a decision you already made: your photos are on Google's servers. That's what makes the search, the sync across devices, and the server-side analysis possible. The recap isn't the thing collecting your library — it's a feature built on top of a library you already uploaded.
WrappedMe makes the opposite trade. Nothing is uploaded, so nothing syncs, there's no web version, and there's no cross-device library. What you get instead is that the analysis of your faces, places, screenshots and categories happens on hardware you own, and no copy of it exists anywhere we could be asked to hand over.
