What Apple Photos Memories does well
Memories is genuinely good, it's free, and it's already on your phone. It picks a trip, a person, or a weekend and turns it into a montage with music, without you asking. If what you want is to be reminded of a nice afternoon while you scroll, you do not need another app — and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
It's also on-device. Apple generates Memories on your iPhone, so the common assumption that "the built-in one uploads and the third-party one doesn't" is backwards here. On privacy, this is a tie.
Where WrappedMe is different
Memories curates. WrappedMe counts. A Memory tells you "here's your trip to the coast"; WrappedMe tells you that you took photos on 246 days, that your busiest single day was a Saturday in March, which categories dominated your library, and how many places you ended up in. Those are different products that happen to read the same photo library.
That framing also explains the format. A Wrapped is a full-screen story you page through, built to be shared as an image or a video — closer to a year-in-review than to a slideshow.
Which one should you use?
Use Memories if you want passive, automatic reminders of individual moments, for free. Use WrappedMe if you want the numbers behind your year and something to share at the end of it. They're not mutually exclusive: WrappedMe reads the same library and doesn't change or move anything in it.
Does WrappedMe upload my photos?
